My piece is unfinished, so this is just a progress photo. I’m exploring the boundary between life and death, and how death is often portrayed. Generally, death is a somber thing, often illustrated eerily. Skulls, for instance, are painted in muted tones using limited palettes. For my piece, I wanted to describe death differently. Instead of blacks, whites, grays, and browns, I wanted to use an array of brighter colors. The intention is to give it some life. This work is original in that my method of portraying an often-portrayed object is entirely different from how it is usually shown. It’s challenging to completely make up the color scheme, and I’m not sure what to do with the background yet.
